KUCHING, 15 June 2025 – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Haji Johari Tun Abang Haji Openg said yesterday that The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) has been a steadfast partner and pivotal economic engine for Sarawak.
He said this in his address during ACCIS’ 60th Anniversary Gala Dinner at the Imperial Hotel this evening.
The Premier underscored the Chamber's historical significance, stating "Since its establishment in 1965, ACCCIS has been an invaluable partner to the State Government." He noted that the Chamber's contributions had proven instrumental in Sarawak's economic transformation spanning from the timber-based era to the current transition toward renewable energy.
Regarding strategic economic contributions, the Premier highlighted concrete achievements arising from state-chamber collaboration. “Through synergistic efforts between the Sarawak Government and ACCCIS, we have successfully secured manufacturing investments from Japan, the United States, and Europe."
He further reaffirmed, “When new industrial opportunities emerge, I shall personally engage ACCCIS for consultation with prospective investors."
Detailing Sarawak's energy vision, the Premier further stated that "Our target of 10 gigawatts generation capacity by 2030 will derive 60-70% from renewable sources." Noting current domestic demand of 5-6 gigawatts, he confirmed surplus clean energy would be exported to neighbouring nations, establishing a new revenue stream for the State.
